The second-ever cohort of the Diversity Council’s “Diversity Pioneers” internship program began their activities on September 19th with the program’s orientation. This semester’s twenty participants were chosen based on the ideas and plans they had submitted for promoting diversity on campus with the theme “Breaking Down Walls Between SNU Students”. They include 17 Koreans and three international students, 10 men and 10 women, and 17 undergraduate and three graduate students. Grouped into one public relations team and three action teams, they are expected to spend a total of 40 hours over the 13-week period from September 19th to December 19th, 2019, engaging in a variety of fruitful activities.
Based on the experience of the first cohort last semester, the council plans to have the current group do both whole-group and team-specific activities in order to better promote a sense of solidarity. In addition, the PR team will plan and produce contents to promote the Diversity Council and share news about it, as well as report on intern activities. As the participants plan and carry out their autonomous team projects, the Diversity Pioneers internship program is expected to be a way for them to confirm their sense of belonging and community consciousness, rather than their differences, as seouldae-in (people of SNU).
