Participation in a General Meeting of the Korean Association of National University Women Professors
SNU Diversity Council Chair Jung-Hye Roe, SNU Women Faculty Council Chair Eun-su Cho and Chair-Elect Wha Sook Jeon, and Diversity Council staff took part in the general meeting of the Korean Association of National University Women Professors (KANUWP) held on Jan. 18–19, 2018 at Guerinnarae Hotel on Busan’s Haeundae Beach. The event was KANUWP’s first such meeting since its founding in Mar. 2017, and, as organized by the association’s first president, Jeong Young sook (Pusan National University), it was an opportunity to forge solidarity with the goal of increasing gender equality in South Korea’s national universities.
Representatives from 18 member universities—Andong, Chonbuk, Chonnam, Chungbuk, Chungnam, Gyeongsang, Hankyong, Jeju, Kangwon, Kongju, Kunsan, Kyungpook, Mokpo, Pusan, and Seoul National Universities, Seoul National University of Science and Technology, the University of Seoul, and Korea Maritime and Ocean University—gathered to hear presentations on Kongju National University’s example of excellence in gender equality and the major findings and recommendations of the SNU Diversity Council’s “SNU Diversity Report 2016”. The representatives also shared their own universities’ accomplishments in 2017, examined the current state of university policies to promote gender equality, and sought ways to improve them.
