Finally, the sixth Annual Diversity Report of 2021 has been published. We experienced a world we have never encountered for the past two years of COVID-19, and we gradually recovered as social distancing was slowly lifted on April 18. The field of academic exchange and various communication between universities have been reactivated little by little. With the prospect that the world will never be the same after COVID-19, we hope that active discussions on what has changed and what should be changed will be exchanged.  

As of October 1, 2021, this report examines the current status of diversity, student life support, and work-life balance of Seoul National University members. Like the last report, we also examined changes of internal and external academic/social exchanges caused by COVID-19 and what measures SNU took to respond to COVID-19. Over time, the university authorities have systematically reorganized the system to respond to COVID-19. All institutions and individuals have rallied efforts to minimize the loss caused by COVID-19 while adapting to the new environment.

Chapter II, a special feature of the report, summarized the analysis results of the "2nd Seoul National University Diversity Climate Survey", a planned research project of the Diversity Council in 2021. A sample survey was conducted for approximately one month from October to November 2021, with a total number of 2,198 responses. This was analyzed for the second diversity climate survey, which followed the 2016 survey. The survey consists of a segment where the same questionnaires were used to compare the results between 2016 and 2021. Also,  a new segment of questionnaire reflecting the changes of the times was added. The statistical analysis results of some of the 56 questions, including a sense of belonging & respect for diversity, student life satisfaction, discrimination & reasons for discrimination, fairness & openness, and the enactment of the Human Rights Charter, can be found in Chapter II of the report.

The Diversity Report has carefully produced gender statistics by status while maintaining the unique classification of members. These analyses are used to create basic student life support materials and to discover and propose policy tasks of the Diversity Council. Recently, diversity has become a keyword for change in the government, companies, and universities. The Diversity Council will continue to make efforts to further ignite conversations on diversity inside and outside of Seoul National University.
