On Mar. 30, 2018, SNU Diversity Council senior expert coordinator Yookyung Bae led a session at the Academy of University Administration as part of a training program for all of SNU’s administrative staff. Entitled “SNU People Going Global: Establishing a Culture of Diversity”, the session introduced the concept of diversity and explained how staff can help diversity-friendly culture take root at the university.
After asking the attendees, “Why is diversity important for SNU?” Dr. Bae proffered the council’s answer: “Because the creative production of knowledge and fostering of talented people becomes possible in a community whose diverse members share their differing perspectives and find the best solutions together through free discussion and cooperation.” She also emphasized that protecting and respecting diversity is necessary to increase the intellectual dynamism of the university’s community, guarantee its members’ universal human rights, and enhance their social cohesion and quality of life.
