The 5th Diversity Workshop, which was canceled due to COVID-19 in December 2020, was held on Wednesday, December 15, 2021, at 1:10 pm at Mugunghwa Hall, SNU HOAM Faculty House. The Diversity Workshop is the largest and most important annual event of the Diversity Council that invites diversity representatives from each institution to present annual Diversity Council’s accomplishments and provide a space to present successful cases for diversity enhancement by institution. A number of 60 diversity representatives participated in the workshop out of a total number of 86, including the (deputy) head/Associate Dean and staff in charge, who are currently appointed to 43 institutions. In addition to the diversity representatives, Hyeryung Jeon, an officer from the Cultural Policy Division of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, three representatives from the Korean Arts Council, and two personnel from the Foreign Affairs Section of the Gwanak Police Station also attended the workshop.

The program was consisted of a 50-minute event without any meals served in order to observe the COVID-19 safety regulation guidelines. During the first half, the Chair, Prof. Wha Sook Jeon briefly presented the completed activities by the Diversity Council in 2021 and introduced the members who attended the workshop; the Planning Research team, Diversity-related Institutions, and the (deputy) head/ Associate Dean of each institution. Then, the Vice Chair, Prof. Changhoo Jeon presented a summary of successful examples of diversity enhancement cases submitted by 17 institutions and presented gift certificates to recognize outstanding practices, which were offered to the Graduate School of Law and Institute for Global Responsibility. The two selected organizations briefly presented their case studies, and the remaining time was reserved to share opinions and suggestions. Prof. Myung-Hwan Kim, the SNU Library General Director, suggested that various cooperative projects should be pursued between institutions, and Prof. Yun-Young Choi, the Vice President of the Faculty of Liberal Education, suggested to increase the amount of new subjects related to diversity in the academic curriculum and recommended greater cooperation. The Associate Dean of Planning at the College of Natural Science, Prof. Sung-Chul Yoon, suggested that research is needed on specific needs for each college in relation to diversity promotion. Prof. Yong Ro Kim, the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs, emphasized the importance of producing various statistics, and the role of the Diversity Report. Officer Changseok Kwak from the Office of Foreign Affairs of the Gwanak Police Station announced that the crime prevention education for international students has been continuously conducted online, and urged colleges or institutions to contact them if international students need help in joining the program. Jiseon Jang, a student council member of the Diversity Council, mentioned that while working with the student intern during the second semester last year, she was able to see that the SNU students had a lot of interest in promoting diversity within the school. The Diversity Workshop, which was held for the first time in two years, was concluded by asking for more support and cooperation in the future.
