The Diversity Council is proud to take part in the welcome reception for new international faculty that the Office of International Affairs (OIA) holds each semester. The first semester of 2019 has seen professors Ryo Okui (College of Social Sciences, Dept. of Economics), Martin Grossheim (College of Humanities, Dept. of Asian History), and Hyung-il Kim (College of Engineering, Dept. of Electrical and Computer Engineering) begin their teaching and research activities at SNU. The OIA’s reception for them took place on the afternoon of March 28th in its lobby, and the Diversity Council’s chair, Ki-Sun Hong, and entire staff attended to welcome them to the university community.

Since the national government introduced university internationalization policies in 2008, SNU has made continuous efforts to increase the diversity of its faculty. International faculty still make up only 5.2% of all tenure-track faculty members (source: “SNU Diversity Report 2017”), but the university is expected to continue striving to attract top international faculty from various backgrounds and expanding support for their research and life on campus, in order to fulfill its goal of excellence in teaching and research.
