The Office of International Affairs (OIA) held its fall 2019 welcome reception for new international faculty at 4 P.M. on September 19th, 2019, in its first-floor lobby. As always, the Diversity Council’s chair and staff were in attendance. This semester, SNU welcomed new faculty members Wu Ying Chieh (School of Law), Park Juyeon (College of Human Ecology) and Ahn G One (College of Veterinary Medicine).
After dean of international affairs Min Gyo Koo gave the opening address, associate dean of international affairs Suk-Won Cha introduced the OIA’s main tasks and staff, and the SNU International Faculty Association’s newly elected president, Sonya Martin (College of Education), and members of its executive committee explained the association’s structure, role, and plan for the future. Diversity Council chair Ki-Sun Hong then presented on the council’s vision, major past activities, and diversity among SNU’s faculty. In response to a question from PerMagnus Lindborg (College of Music) on gender diversity among faculty, Chairperson Hong described the current situation of female faculty and mentioned efforts in- and outside of the university to increase the hiring of female faculty, such as a proposed amendment to the Public Educational Officials Act.
