The Diversity Council was proud to participate in the Office of Academic Affairs’ New Faculty Orientation Program for the first time during the program’s fall 2019 session, which took place with 35 participants on August 28-29th at Yang Du Seok Hall in Kwanjeong Library. In a 10-minute lecture starting at 9:30 A.M. on the 28th, Diversity Council chair Ki-Sun Hong explained how the council was established, its main functions, and the current state of diversity at SNU according to its yearly Diversity Report. Because many university bodies give such presentations during the program, the time allowed for each presentation is short.
The New Faculty Orientation Program is held each year in February and August for new tenure-track faculty, and covers a wide range of topics that includes SNU’s main administration and operational structure, the faculty promotion system, welfare systems, teaching and research support, research integrity issues, the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act and SNU Faculty Code of Conduct, support for students with disabilities, and human rights and sexual harassment/sexual violence. The Diversity Council decided to participate in the New Faculty Orientation Program after discussing the matter at its full-council meeting on June 10th, 2019.
