On Jan. 22, 2018, SNU Diversity Council representatives spoke about the council and its activities during the Academy of University Administration’s course for staff about to be promoted to rank 4. By sharing some of the findings of its “SNU Diversity Report 2016”, the first publication of its kind from a South Korean university, the council’s representatives presented on diversity at SNU and the main issues the university faces in this area.
While introducing the policies that the council advocates based on the report’s findings, the representatives emphasized the necessity of the following efforts: improving gender equality at SNU by, for example, increasing the percentage of female faculty and their representation in decision-making bodies; raising SNU’s relatively low level of internationalization compared to other domestic universities; conducting research on and improving the working conditions of non-tenure-track faculty and researchers and non-permanent administrative staff; expanding customized support systems for minority students and others; and producing detailed statistics on the university’s demographics to improve its administration and management.
