On May 31, 2018, the Diversity Council held its second Diversity Pioneers Challenge award ceremony and prizewinning projects presentation. This year, 33 teams/individuals competed in the challenge, eight were awarded prizes, and seven presented their proposals at the awards ceremony. The event was attended by Diversity Council Chair Jung-Hye Roe, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Education Chan Wook Park, and Sub-council for Education & Promotion Chair Eun Mee Kim.

Hyunmin KIM (master’s degree student, Graduate School of Business) introduced his Grand Prize winning entry “Cradle of Diverse Studies, SNU”, which proposed creating a study program that brings together students of different nationalities and majors. Excellence Prize winners Sanghwa AHN (undergraduate student, Dept. of Economics) and Sydney Thompson (master’s degree student, Graduate School of International Studies), also presented their respective entries, “A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the SNU Diversity Galaxy” and “SNU Global Ambassador Program”.

Various members of the SNU community were among the eight prizewinning teams and individuals, including an international faculty member, a staff member, and a team consisting of a student and a staff member, and this diversity made the contest more meaningful. After reviewing them at sub-council and full council meetings, the Diversity Council plans to recommend some of the prizewinning proposals to the university’s administration and make sustained efforts to bring them to fruition.
