The Diversity Council held its second forum on Sept. 9, 2016 in the Asia Center’s Youngwon Hall. The event was an opportunity for the team conducting the study titled “How to Improve Faculty Diversity at SNU: Female Faculty and Its Place” to share the results of its research over the previous three months and for all of the attendees to become hear about domestic and overseas universities’ efforts to promote diversity.

In his keynote address, lead researcher Professor Han Shin-Kap of the Department of Sociology discussed the importance and effects of diversity, emphasizing in particular the importance of female faculty’s role and the necessity of institutional support for this. Then, Professor Chikako Yoshida-Noro of Nihon University described Japan’s gender equality indices, the situation of its female university faculty, and its efforts to raise the proportion of women in scientific and engineering fields, and Professor Kim Hyun Mee of Yonsei University introduced the results of her institution’s “Gender Equality Perceptions Survey” and other diversity-related research efforts. Finally, Professor Ae-sun Yoon, member of Pusan University’s Department of Language and Literature and chair of its Women’s Faculty Council, and Professor Hyojee Joung of SNU’s Department of Public Health Science led a discussion of the presentations.
